Jesus Always: 365 Devotions for Kids by Sarah Young ~ New Books to Love

I’m thrilled that Sarah Young wrote a new 365-day devotional, Jesus Always, and that now this children’s version, Jesus Always: 365 Devotions for Kids, is available!

Sarah’s first devotional, Jesus Calling, changed both my life and my kids’ lives (Jesus Calling: 365 Devotions for Kids). This children’s version of Jesus Always is written with careful attention to biblical truth and as if Jesus is talking to each child.

Especially during these times of frequent natural and man-made disasters, children will find comfort and joy in these devotions when their lives may seem uncertain. Each devotion helps children discover how Jesus wants to connect with them and bring joy to them every day.

In her introduction to this book, Sarah writes, “[This] is a book about joy—how you can find Joy in Jesus no matter what is happening in your life…. On days when life is extra tough, it seems harder to find things to thank God for. But if I take time to look closely, I find plenty of good things.”

Sometimes life is tough. My three kids and I all struggle with various levels of chronic illness or disability. I started reading Sarah’s first devotional to my children each night during a very stressful time in their lives. They loved it so much that we continued with it daily for the next five years. One of my children struggled with reading, so the kids’ version worked well for that child even into high school.

Sarah Young’s many years of struggling with chronic illness give her street creds in my viewpoint. She’s lived out her message of finding joy during tough circumstances. Because she stayed focused on listening to God through her years of struggling, she discovered and has been able to express God’s most tender and gentle heart that yearns to connect with each of us.

Growing up in an evangelical church, I was grateful to learn Bible knowledge and how to obey God, but either God’s love wasn’t stressed as much or I didn’t grasp it well. Sarah’s devotional books have been instrumental in helping me develop an intimate relationship with a God who sees and loves me. I want my children to learn this love of God earlier in their lives because a sound love-relationship with God needs to be the core of following Him.

As a former homeschooling mom and now a children’s author, I wanted to review this new book because my children and I enjoyed Sarah’s other devotional for kids so much. After reading through my review copy, I’m sure that Jesus Always for kids will be treasured as much as Sarah’s original devotional.

Format: one Bible verse printed out with the reference at the top of the page, the devotional, and 2-3 more related Bible references available to look up and read. Each devotional is one page–quick enough for the shortest of attention spans (believe me, I know short attention spans). Because of the extra verse references at the bottom of each page, each devotion can also be expanded for older kids too. As with the kid’s version of Jesus Calling, this version of Jesus Always has kid-friendly examples with easy to understand words but never talks down to kids.

I can’t recommend this children’s edition of Jesus Always enough! (5 stars) For any child in grade school or higher, especially those who need some reassurance of who they are to Jesus or who need some extra joy.
